Agony of Bengali Hindus in Assam: 85 Year old Bhanumati Devi again gets Foreigner's Notice

Agony of Bengali Hindus in Assam continues. In spite of having all the legitimate documents of Indian Citizenship, many Bengali Hindus are getting Foreigner's Notice. Then comes the real fight to prove self as Indian Citizen. And here the pain becomes bigger.

Same agony again comes in the life of Bhanumati Devi(85). She is a resident of Koritol village under Chamria police station of Kamrup district. Twenty one year ago, court declared her as Indian and acquitted her from foreigner charge. She has Aadhaar Card and Voter card and have all the legitimate documents of Indian Citizenship. But now she has received foreigner's notice again. Chamria police has sent a Foreigner's notice to her.

She said, ‛In 1998, Police sent Foreigner's notice against me. To prove myself a Indian Citizen, i submitted all my documents to court. In 2001, Court declared me as a Indian Citizen. But few days ago, Police sent me Foreigner's Notice again.’ But after receiving fresh notice, she is in fear.

Her son said, ‛We have all the legitimate documents. My other has Aadhaar Card, Voter card and we also have NRC Legacy data.’ He alleged that we have been targeted as we are Bengali Hindu.

All Assam Bangali Parishad condemned this.  Kamrup district President Sanjay Sarkar said, ‛During election, BJP promised to give security to Bengali Hindus from D-Voter harassment. Due to this, majority of Bengali Hindus gave their votes to BJP. Now Bengali Hindus are targeted again.’
