Is Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh(RSS) a Hindu version of ISIS?

© Siddhant S. Sinha

To begin with let’s define the two:

Al Qaeda is a terrorist organisation with 7th century Islamic ideology which it wishes to impose upon all of mankind. Period! It is responsible for numerous heinous attacks throughout the world either directly or through its affiliations with other terrorist organisations like Boko Haram and Al Shabaab in African states, or with the Muslim Brotherhood Organisations spreading from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Yemen right up to Morocco, Nigeria, Egypt and all of Middle-east. There has been a recent drop in the activities of Al Qaeda because most of its affiliates have now aligned themselves with ISIS. Al Qaeda is still very much active and it has many affiliations around the world, including Europe. Al-Qaeda - Wikipedia This group has no other humanitarian network whatsoever.

RSS - Rashtriya Swayam-sevak Sangh (meaning National Self-help Organisation) is a non-violent, social organisation, however, it’s original ideology which it still retains, is that of Hindu nationalism. RSS as an organisation has never been involved in violent protests, unlike virtually every political party in India. Very few are aware that the RSS is the biggest NGO in the world, with a presence in over 60,000 villages in India. You can find the details here: The Other Side Of RSS – Good Work They’ve Done That You Should Know About.

In any national emergency Indians if they keep their eyes open and their minds alive, will find that the RSS cadres are the first to arrive at the scene and carry out rescue work much before Government assistance arrives. RSS base is that strong, and that wide-spread. This is what gives it the edge over political parties.

There are two reasons why RSS has been targeted since 1947. The first was the saddest event, the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi by Nathuram Godse, a member of the RSS. RSS was banned, and later the ban was lifted in 1949.

The other major reason why it faces ire from political parties (especially the Congress and left) opposed to the BJP has its origins in 1951 when the ‘Bharitya Jan Sangh’ - BJS was created as a political wing of the RSS. Because RSS had very strong cadre base across India, it was considered a serious challenge to Congress which viewed BJS as the only political rival, while the leftists saw their position as the principle opposition being snatched away. After the ‘Emergency’, BJS merged with various parties to form the ‘Janta Party’ under the leadership of JaiPrakash Narayan. Congress was ousted and Janta Party formed the Government at the centre. But the infighting within Janta Party after Lok Nayak JaiPrakash Narayan’s death. Janta party broke up and Congress was back in power. Embers from BJS were still alit, and from it rose a political party which today rules over 75% of India in population and geography - the BJP. Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Lal Krishna Advani, along with leaders like Sikandar Bakht created the BJP after the fall of Janta Party. But Congress still considered RSS as a real political threat and to keep it at bay, Congress leaders painted a dark picture about RSS. They always blamed the RSS for being an organisation with Hindu Extremist views without ever bothering to provide any concrete (or even shallow) evidence to back it up. That falls flat on their face because RSS also has another wing - the MRM. This is a massive organisation which has very strong support of the minorities.

Today, most of the media is still against the BJP although the recent UP elections should be an eye opener for them because the BJP has done the unimaginable. It has won 67 seats by Hindu candidates from Muslim dominated areas. The RSS-MRM combined their ground resources to bring about this achievement which would be unthinkable just two years earlier.

And by the way, shouldn’t people ask Sonia Gandhi why she arranged her daughter, Priyanka’s marriage into a family (of Rajiner Vadra) which had very strong links with the RSS, but sadly, after Priayanka’s marriage to Robert Vadra, the latter’s brother, sister and father died in mysterious circumstances in a short span, and why the deaths are still not explainable?

Anyway, before anyone compares RSS to any non-social organisation, he/she must first study and do some research before making a statement as preposterous as this one.

Rashtriya Swayam-sevak Sangh is a national asset. It’s integrity and good work has also been reluctantly appreciated by some Congress leaders.

Think again… Is it a terrorist outfit like ISIS? Its a shame that we have to mention both names in same breath.
