At least two members of the jihadi group Ansarullah Bangla Team(ABT), a neo Al Qaeda group of Bangladesh and an important part of the Al-Qaeda in Indian Sub-Continent(AQIS) stayed in Kolkata and gathered funds to run sleeper cells in bordering districts of West Bengal, reveals probe.

Two months after the NIA and MP police nabbed several members of the ABT from Bhopal, the Kolkata Police STF brought back two terrorists to Kolkata on Friday. The two accused Muhammad Hamidullah and Muhammad Akil were produced in court and sent to judicial custody.

An STF official said that the accused had stayed in the city. We have been trying to find out their accomplices and activities here. STF sources also claimed that the terrorists duo stayed in Central Kolkata during pandemic period and operated the jihadi module from there.

Sources also claimed, ‛We had arrested an ABT member, Hasnat Sheikh (25) and realizes that the AQIS was trying to indoctrinate new members. Around the same time, West Bengal STF nabbed four members of ABT. When we questioned them, it became clear that all their modules operating in West Bengal, Assam, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh were linked.’
