Kolkata: Story of Arpita, victim of Love-Jihad, trafficked to Bangladesh, gangraped and recovered by Police

(The following story is based on the life of Arpita(Name changed)- a 15 year old girl from Khidirpore area of Kolkata. )

September, 2022- Arpita(15), a lively girl suddenly got missing. She went to attend the computer training class, but didn't return. Her poor parents searched for her in her friend's home, in the home of her relatives. But they couldn't find her. So they filed a missing complaint in local police station.

Based on sources, police got to know that Arpita had a relationship with local Muslim boy. The accused boy is the son of local businessman, who is very rich. Eventually, on considering the age of the girl, police lodged an FIR against the boy. After few days police detained the father of the Muslim boy. 

Upon repeated questioning, police came to know that the boy has taken the girl to Bangladesh, through Hingalganj border of North 24 Parganas district. Police pressurized to bring back the girl within two days. Father of the boy agreed.

Then police reached Basirhat, a bordering town of North 24 Parganas district. With the help from local political leaders, one evening the girl returned to India. Police picked up the girl and came back to Kolkata. But her lover didn't return from Bangladesh. 

In front of her parents, Arpita narrated the horrific incident of torture and gangrape. She said that she was taken to Bangladesh by her lover through open border with the help agents. There she was kept captivated and was raped repeatedly by her lover and friends. She also said that total four youths raped her repeatedly. 

In the meantime, police took him to PG Hospital for medical checkup. After that she was produced in court. But the story took strange turn when the girl changed her narrative during 164. She denied of gangrape. So, court sent her to a welfare Home. From then, she is still there.

And in ground, her parents are receiving threats repeatedly to withdraw the case. Also, her parents are barred from meeting their daughter.

Finding no way out, her parents approached Hindu Samhati, a renowned Hindu Organization of West Bengal. In past, this organization successfully handled such cases, learned people say a lots of such cases. And Sri Shantanu Singha, Vice President of that organization, who is also a senior lawyer of Calcutta High Court, took up the case. 

When contacted, Shantanu Singha said, ‘The sorry is horrifying and shocking too. Police put a lots of efforts to recover the girl, but didn't arrested the accused boy. But the immense pressure from different corner makes the parents helpless. After recovery, they couldn't meet their daughter. I've already sent notices to concerned authorities. Also I'm preparing to file case in Calcutta High court in this matter.”
